If you are feeling tired or worn out lately, chances are that is because you aren't getting enough sleep each night, or the sleep you are getting is not restful. We all need to get at least six or seven hours of sleep nightly in order to be ready to take on the next day.
There are all kinds of factors that can interfere with you getting a good night's sleep, from stress over work responsibilities to issues with your relationship. While you cannot control every aspect of your life, you can certainly adopt better sleeping habits.
Here are a few tips to help you out:
- Create a bedtime ritual: Having a ritual for your bedtime will help get your mind and body into a restful place. Whether you want to brush your teeth, take a warm shower or read a book is up to you, just be sure to keep it consistent.
- Make your room ideal: If your room is not conducive to a good night's rest, you will not get the proper sleep that you need. The bedroom should be cool and dark, so you will want to shut your curtains and turn off any electronics that are in the room with you.
- Stick to a sleep schedule: Being consistent when you go to bed and wake up each day will reinforce your body's sleep-wake cycle, which will help get you the sleep that you need. Whether it is a weekend, holiday or regular weeknight, you will want to stick to the same schedule.
