Research unearths benefits of vitamin E for the brain

We discuss brain supplements frequently on this blog, as many vitamins and minerals can have a substantial effect on your cognitive abilities over time – and may even help delay the onset of serious conditions like Alzheimer's disease. But it isn't just different nutrients that can enact positive effects for brain health, both individually and through symbiosis. New research conducted by the University of Eastern Finland, the Finnish National Institute for Health and Welfare, Karolinska Institutet and Italy's University of Perugia has indicated that variants of vitamin E may have these distinct benefits as well.

"Studies investigating the link between vitamin E and memory disorders have usually focused on a single form of vitamin E, namely α-tocopherol," states a press release published by ScienceDaily. "However, vitamin E exists in eight different natural forms, tocopherols and tocotrienols, all of which have antioxidant properties."

The researchers analyzed the memory retention patterns of 140 Finnish participants over the age of 65 with no history of cognitive impairments and found that every variant of vitamin E played some role in preserving these faculties.

As we referenced previously, many of the decisions you make on a daily basis have the potential to protect your mind and body from serious ailments, from the nutrients you consume to the amount of time you devote to reading, exercise and even meditation.
