Study reveals memory support is a concern for younger Baby Boomers

As we touched upon in our last post, Alzheimer's disease is a prevalent and often detrimental condition that is poised to place an incredible strain on the healthcare industry as the Baby Boomer generation ages. In addition to investigating new avenues of treatment, including the use of curcumin supplements and other natural compounds, medical researchers are continually conducting surveys and analyzing their results to determine the full scope of the problem.

Recently, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention teamed up with the Alzheimer's Association to release figures from a 2011 survey regarding the prevalence of memory support issues among Americans in their early 60s. NBC News reports that 12 percent of respondents in the 60-64 age bracket indicated that they'd experienced memory lapses and confusion within the last year. A large portion of that population also noted that these instances had a notable impact on their work and personal life.

"When one in eight Americans 60-plus says they are having memory problems, then we continue to have a problem and things are not going to get better for the foreseeable future," Alzheimer's Association senior director Matthew Baumgart  told the media outlet.

One of the most concerning facts exposed by the survey, though, is that just 35 percent of the respondents who were concerned about their brain health had spoken to a medical professional about the issue, NBC notes.

With these figures in mind, it's increasingly evident that it is never too soon to start bolstering your cognitive faculties with healthy lifestyle choices, memory support supplements and foods known to promote brain health.
