It’s no secret that the foods you consume can have a notable effect on how you feel – even if you are just bogged down after a meal laden with saturated fats. In the past, we’ve reviewed research regarding the documented benefits of omega-3 fatty acids, not just as brain enhancers, but as potential mood-boosters as well. Now, a new study has revealed that multivitamins in general may also perform this function on a day-to-day basis.
According to Nutraingredients-USA, researchers from the Swinburne University of Technology and Melbourne University in Australia have discovered that taking multivitamins once a day may increase energy levels and improve one’s overall emotional state. To determine this, the scientists recruited 116 individuals and divided them into groups – with some participants receiving a multivitamin once a day for four months while others consumed a placebo supplement instead.
During this time, the people who took dietary supplements reported greater levels of energy. They also indicated that they slept better and saw an improvement in their overall well-being and mood. Though previous studies have revealed that multivitamins may have these benefits, the source notes that this research is one of the first projects to evaluate the “subjective” effects of multivitamins by gauging how the participants felt after taking the provided supplements.
Though multivitamins may help prevent certain nutrient deficiencies that could impact your long-term health, they should not be taken in the place of a balanced diet. Ensuring that your diet contains nutritious whole foods can also have a substantial impact on how much energy you have – and how good you feel in general.
