Memory loss is one of the greatest health concerns facing older Americans today, particularly as the Baby Boomer generation approaches seniority. But, while some people may only start to look into natural memory enhancers after their recollections have already gotten a little hazy, a new study has shown that taking such dietary supplements at a younger age can have a significant impact on your memory retention and overall brain health.
According to research published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition and covered by NutraIngredients USA, adults as young as 18 years old may see immediate benefits from increasing their omega-3 fatty acid intake in this way.
Conducted by scientists from New Zealand and the United Kingdom, the new study has revealed that individuals between 18 and 45 years old who took the omega-3 fatty acid Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) in supplement form over the course of six months displayed notable improvements in memory retention and reaction time. The participants, the study abstract states, all had low levels of this brain enhancer in their daily diet.
Though ample research has explored the benefits of omega-3 fatty acids for brain health, this is one of the first to reveal how such supplements can improve cognitive function among younger generations.
The abstract states that the memory and reaction time of female participants were incrementally greater than males who took the supplement, but the researchers concluded that, overall, increasing DHA consumption can have "far-reaching benefits" for everyone in this age group.
As this study indicates, it is never too early to think about proper nutrition for the brain. Click to read information about our DHA and brain support supplements, including Brain NRG.
